Our History

Our journey began with a shared dedication to giving vulnerable sanctuary cats a safe, quiet space to heal, thrive, and re-discover trust.

Our History

Purroling Paws Prison Cat Rescue was established with a clear, compassionate vision: to create a therapeutic environment where both inmates and rescue cats could find a second chance at life. Founded after recognizing that thousands of shelter cats faced euthanasia while individuals within the correctional system lacked avenues for emotional rehabilitation and vocational skill-building, our organization stepped in to bridge this gap. By partnering with local institutions, we developed a unique program where residents dedicate themselves to the care, socialization, and healing of stray felines, preparing them for loving forever families while fostering deep empathy behind bars.Purroling Paws Prison Cat Rescue was born from a simple yet profound observation: the transformative power of the human-animal bond within correctional facilities. Since our founding in 2023 at Avenal State Prison, we have dedicated ourselves to rescuing at-risk feline populations while providing inmates with the unique opportunity to participate in their care and rehabilitation. This dual mission serves both the animals in need and the community behind bars, fostering empathy and responsibility.
