About Purroling Paws

Purroling Paws is dedicated to the welfare of cats, offering spay/neuter services, emergency response, fostering, inmate adoption, alliance building, and fundraising efforts. Our mission is to create a safe and loving environment for cats in need, ensuring their well-being and happiness.

Why We Exist

Purroling Paws exists to provide a happy, healthy, and secure future for Avenal State Prison’s cherished cats. We strive towards the day when all the cherished cats of our prison lead lives filled with happiness, health, and security. Our mission is to address the overpopulation of cats within the prison grounds humanely and effectively. By implementing comprehensive programs such as Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), emergency medical response, and fostering, we aim to reduce the suffering of these cats and enhance their quality of life. Our dedicated team of volunteers and staff works tirelessly to ensure that every cat receives the care and attention they deserve, ultimately finding them loving forever homes. Through our efforts, we not only improve the lives of the cats but also foster a sense of community and compassion among all involved.

Who We Are

The overpopulation of cats within Avenal State Prison presents a significant challenge, leading to a myriad of issues that impact both the feline population and the prison community. Without intervention, the number of cats continues to grow, resulting in inadequate access to food, shelter, and medical care. This overpopulation leads to increased suffering, disease, and death among the cats. Additionally, the presence of a large number of stray cats poses sanitation and safety concerns for the prison environment. Addressing this problem is crucial to ensure the well-being of the cats and to create a healthier, more humane environment within the prison.

Our Solution

Neither the markets nor aid alone can solve the problems of cat overpopulation and suffering at Avenal State Prison. We’re here to change that. Our initiatives—Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), emergency medical response, and fostering and adoption programs—are designed to improve the lives of the cats we serve. By working collaboratively with prison staff, volunteers, and veterinary services, we maximize our impact without jeopardizing security. These efforts ensure a happy, healthy, and secure future for all cherished cats within the prison.
